American Chemical Society Summer Experience for the Economically Disadvantaged
(ACS SEED Project)

This project provides local high school students from families at or below the poverty line hands-on research experience in faculty labs for eight summer weeks. Andy has led this program at UC Merced since 2010 and has grown it to be the largest of the UC System.
NIH Bridges to the Doctorate Program (R25 GM115293)
2015 – 2020
PI: Viswanathan Krishnan; co-PI: Andy LiWang
This program prepared Masters students at Fresno State for PhD programs in biomedical or behavioral sciences at UC Merced. Both Fresno State and UC Merced are located in the San Joaquin Valley in California’s Central Valley, one of the most rapidly growing yet underserved areas of California. All students in this program were Hispanic or Black.
